“I want to not have to come up on stage and expose the contents of my cupboards to a load of strangers ‘cos it’s embarrassing. I want my mum to be able to log into Facebook and, when she sees photos of Government-funded ‘home school lunches’ shared around to raise awareness, for that not to be awareness-raised of her own kid’s situation. In fact, I want that situation to not exist for anyone.”

Performed at Well-Fed’s Community Festival in the August of 2021, this early collaboration with writer Tanika Maya Lay tackled the issue of food poverty with a surprising amount of light-hearted depth. Kid, accompanied by glamourous assistants Erika and Poppin, took their audience on an optimistically honest walk into the world of food poverty and food banks. Aimed at increasing awareness, promoting understanding, and connecting the community, the performance marked the first step in a longer collaboration between Well-Fed and Haywire Theatre.
