“Because there’s a lot of stuff my hamster’s never experienced. And I’ve been thinking. You know. He’s been a good pet. And he’s lived a pretty sheltered life. And I think it would make him happy if he gets to experience a few of these things before he dies.”

‘buckets’ - Adam Barnard

‘buckets’ is a story about why you shouldn’t go skydiving with your hamster. It is a story about video games. About how to pull off a successful mugging. About how to tell someone you love them, and how to make sure they say it back. But mostly, ‘buckets’ is a show about the weight we have on one another's lives, and the world we leave behind once we’re gone.

‘buckets’ marks Haywire’s festival debut at the Buxton Fringe, and our first step into the live theatre space. In many ways it is a near perfect representation of what our work is looking to achieve, a brilliantly humane celebration of everyday life. Over the course of Adam Barnard’s 2015 play, Haywire takes you on a journey of loss, affection, laughter and absurdity through thirty-three intertwined scenes. Some connected, others stand alone, but all attempt to answer, in their own way, the thoroughly unanswerable question: what do you do with your time if you know your time is running out?

‘buckets’ was performed in High Peak Bookstore and Cafe on the 9th, 10th, 16th, and 17th July 2021.

Cast: Lisa Jayne, Will Griffiths, Lucy Haslingden
